San Elizario, TX (KTSM) — San Elizario will soon become a city. Hundreds of residents voted in what it turned out to be a landslide election, 88 percent of the voters approved the incorporation efforts.
The incorporation movement started in January after the City of Socorro announced plans to annex 8 parcels of San Eli’s land.
It took several months for the group to gather petition signatures, create city limits and completing the legal processes. The soon to be city will have 6 months to elect a mayor and city council after the group submits a call to election request to County Judge Veronica Escobar.
