Robberies are up this week for the first time in 2010, according to El Paso Police. Since the first of the year, there have been 273 reported robberies - up 1% from last year.

Last year there were 270 reporter robberies between January and August.

At the beginning of summer the police department began an initiative going door to door to encourage people to close their garages even in the extreme heat to prevent burglaries.
