EL PASO – Traffic is backed up for hours along a busy street in Socorro.

The westbound lanes of Alameda are closed at Rio Vista and will remain closed until Sunday. Traffic is being diverted onto the center median.

“It's causing hours of delays,” said city spokesman Dave Garcia.

The closure is due to construction on a new Walmart. Garcia encourages the public to take a different route in the meantime.
