EL PASO — If you happen to be looking for a job...you may have noticed a lot of ads for truck drivers.
Many longtime truckers left the business after new Comprehensive Safety Analysis or CSA regulations came into effect 2010. The regulations were intended to improve safety by penalizing drivers for traffic violations and mandating regular inspection of equipment. The additional complexity of the regulations and the recent spike in gas prices led many owner operators to leave trucking or retire. But, more recently, the economy has shown signs of improving, and production has increased. As production increases, more and more goods need to move across the country and the demand for drivers continues to rise. A new driver can expect to make around $30-35,000 annually.
