Congressman Sylvestre Reyes spoke about the jobs bill, which will bring $48 million to local school districts.

During a luncheon held in downtown El Paso, the congressman pointed out that governor Rick Perry previously used funding that was given to the state for education and diverted it to a rainy-day fund.

The congressman said this time around, specific language was put in place to make sure the money is used as it's intended.

"You've heard the governor complain that he's got to follow certain rules," he said. "Well, the last time, he didn't follow the intent of Congress, shafted kids and this time, we want to make sure, if he's going to take that money, that it's going to the school districts and that's where it should go."

Perry still has to approve the money before school districts can receive it.
