Retailers prep for Black Friday, locals camp outside stores

Thanksgiving Day is approaching fast and that means retailers in the Borderland are busy gearing up for the Black Friday shopping rush - retailers like Walmart say they're ready.

"Someone always seems to forget something whether it's as easy as butter or whatever it may be that they ran out of something so they quickly run in for that last minute item," said Kimberly Johnstun, the Marketing Manager for El Paso's west side Walmart.

The retail giant's store on the west side expects to schedule between 300 to 500 employees this holiday weekend, and some of those staff members are looking forward to making some extra cash.

"Everyone enjoys extra hours. It makes it a little bit easier for your spending for your own family," said Sandra Lima, a store employee.

On Tuesday afternoon, Walmart employees were hard at work stacking shelves and setting up displays for some of the store's most popular items.

From toys, tablets, clothes, to even pumpkin pie, the store says it's all stocked up and ready to go.

Meanwhile, customers scoured the aisles for some last-minute shopping.

"Everything here in Walmart is perfect. It's good prices for people like me," said Raul Perez.

"It's been pretty good. We plan every year to avoid all this craziness," said Veronica Soto.

"To be honest with you, it's my mother-in-law who is the one that does most of it. My husband and I, we have only done it once. We enjoy it but now with the children, mother-in-law takes care of all of that," said Lorena Flores.

Walmart says it's been prepping for Black Friday for months, just to make sure they're ready for the holiday rush.

Meanwhile, shoppers looking to snag a good deal at Best Buy this Black Friday already pitched their tents at the store on the west side.

Victor Juarez and his family say they've been camping outside the store since Monday morning, and have saved more than $4000 by doing it in past years.

Stores like Best Buy and Walmart will be open Thanksgiving Day and offer Black Friday deals starting Thursday evening.
