CAIRO, EGYPT - State TV says President Hosni Mubarak met with Vice President Omar Suleiman and his prime minister today as thousands of protesters packed into Tahrir Square expecting an announcement of Mubarak's resignation.

President Mubarak may step down at any time.

High level Egyptian military officers met today and the military announced that it was moving to preserve Egypt and the aspirations of its people.

The announcement came after 17 days of protests demanding that President Mubarak step down.

Mubarak had said that he would not run again after his current term but that was not good enough for the protesters who want him out of power immediately.
