Researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina have embarked on a study to see whether fish oil supplements can reduce suicides among military personnel.
The suicide rate in the military is much higher than in the general population. Study subjects already receiving mental health services will take high doses of omega-3 fatty acids for the next 6 months.
Researchers in the $10 million project are collaborating with the Veterans Administration and The National Institutes of Health.
