Rescue team member injured

The El Paso Fire Department Combined Search and Rescue Team spent several overnight hours searching for two teenage boys who got lost on a hike on the Ron Coleman Trail in the Franklin Mountains.

According to El Paso Fire Department Spokesman George De La Torre, the 16 and 18 year old boys started an evening hike with their family at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The family returned to their campsite at 9 p.m., but the two teens wanted to continue the hike. One of the boys' mothers called 9-1-1 at 2:15 a.m. Sunday to report that the boys had not returned from the hike.

De La Torre said the teens made it over to the west side of the mountain, but got lost. They had water and a flashlight, along with a cell phone, but it had a very low battery and they were not able to call for help. Two other experienced hikers on the trail found the teens and took the boys to their campsite where they gave the teens food and water. The experienced hikers guided the rescue team to their campsite where the crews found the teens at 8:00 a.m. Sunday. De La Torre said the boys were not injured and did not need to be taken to the hospital.

A member of the Combined Search h and Rescue team suffered an ankle injury.   Their condition is unknown.
