A new report that claims El Paso is one of the top 20 strongest metro areas in the country. According to the Brookings Institute MetroMonitor Report, El Paso ranked 11th in the country.
This report is supposed to provide "the first 'beneath-the-hood' look at the impact of the recession on metropolitan America." It measures changes in employment totals, unemployment rates, wages, housing prices, the value of goods and services produced by cities and other factors through the first three months of the year to identify which cities are performing well and which are not.
NewsChannel 9 invited Tom Fullerton, a professor of economics and finance at UTEP, to weigh in on the report.
