TUCSON, ARIZ.— A week after the January 8 shooting in Tucson, doctors have said the congresswoman shot in the head is no longer in critical condition.
Gabrielle Giffords' doctors have said she is now in serious condition, and no longer in critical condition. Doctors are optimistic in her well-being and are hoping she could be released from the hospital within days and into rehab. The Arizona representative underwent two more surgeries over the weekend.
Giffords was shot in the head during a meet-and-greet with her constituents at a Tucson supermarket. Six people were killed, including a 9-year-old girl born on 9/11 whom was featured in a book titled “Faces of Hope”, during the shooting that left at least 18 other people wounded.
Rumors flew on Monday that Jared Lee Loughner, the suspect in the shootings, might be tried somewhere other than Arizona. The Justice Department said they were going to make sure and keep the trial in Arizona.
