The Salvation Army has been very busy over the past month, raising money through its famous kettle drives.

"I knew the economy was bad. I knew that the people would not give much money and we knew that the sites like the malls were not as crowded as they were in the past years." says Lud Bezemek, the coordinator of the El Paso Salvation Army's kettle drive.

Bezemek says despite the economy, the salvation army had high goals for this year, to raise over 200-thousand dollars.

Preliminary numbers show the Salvation Army did just that. This year, it appears the El Paso kettle drive brought in more than $220,000.

That money will be used to operate the family shelter and feed those in need.
