EL PASO — The "Gym Class Heroes" will have the audience in a "chokehold" when they perform for our nation's heroes at Fort Bliss' Freedom Crossing... where crews continue to set the stage for a show within a show.
"The producers of the show actually, like Nigel Lythgoe, actually go out onto the Internet, onto YouTube, and they find videos of people who have posted, who have talent singing, who have posted themselves and they go to their house and they surprise them with the opportunity to open for a major act like the Gym Class Heroes," said Danaria Farris McCoy, Freedom Crossing Director of Marketing.
Producers behind hit reality shows "American idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance" descend on the sun city to shoot a segment for their upcoming E! reality show called "Opening Act"... which will feature the act chosen to open for the "Gym Class Heroes".
"The opening act is called 24/7. They're from Detroit. They're a four member band that's a similar genre to Gym Class Heroes. They're a pop act," said McCoy.
McCoy says the band lives up to its name... working 24/7 to prepare for its performance in front an estimated 8,000 concert-goers.
"They have five days to prepare, they get flown to LA where they meet with producers, make-over aritsts, choreographers and ultimately they work around the clock to be able to pull off a fantastic opportunity like opening for the Gym Class Heroes," said McCoy.
The show serves as part two in the "Let Freedom Sing" summer concert series... which invites the entire community to come on base and rock out for free.
"The Gym Class Heroes are fantastic to come out and perform for our community and so I think the producers of the show "Opening Act" really saw this as a great opportunity to highlight not only Fort Bliss and the military, but the El Paso community as well," said McCoy.
The concert begins Friday night at 7.
Two more shows will take place later this summer in the series.
"Opening Act" premieres July 9th on E!.
