City officials canceled Saturday night's "Movies Under the Stars" event at Eastwood Park because of rain, but a double birthday party for siblings Adrian, 9, and Jazmine, 7, went on as planned at the same location.

"It was supposed to rain today [and we] saw that 50 percent chance, but we took our chances," said their father, Adrian Martinez.

"And everything was already done and ordered, so we went with it."

Martinez said he was thrilled none of the storms in Saturday's forecast rained on his son and daughter's party.

"Sunshine would have made it a little bit fresher, but they're happy."

Adrian and Jazmine told NewsChannel 9 they were "especially happy" because the grass stayed dry enough for guests to go ahead with their favorite party activity: sack races.

However, another event scheduled for Saturday evening at the same park in East El Paso did not happen as planned. City Rep. Emma Acosta canceled a free outdoor showing of "The LEGO Movie," citing "inclement weather."

She said it will be rescheduled for a later date.

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" is still scheduled for August 9 at the Vista Del Valle Park.
