City Councilors announced public comment for the controversial Hotel Motel Tax will be next week.

As early as January 2, 2013 City Council will enact the so-called Hot Tax, the additional 2 percent hotel room tax that's designed to help build a downtown baseball stadium

It contains some tough language about fines for hotels that don't pay on time, criminal action, even the city's option to close a hotel until they pay all of its room taxes.

The next step is the opportunity for you to speak about the Hot Tax in front of council.

That will be December 12, and you need to get there by 8:30 A.M. in order to sign up as a speaker.

City Councilor Susie Byrd says perceived "harsh language" on the ordinance proposal isn't out of the ordinary, " that's not unusual, it's like property taxes, just the regular language supplied by the state code to supply the city municipalities to garner a hotel motel tax."

I want to thank the Northeast Representative Carl Robinson for his input and realistic outlook on this purposed baseball stadium at least someone on city councel has vision.

What's next a semi-pro football team whom nobody will come and watch because the hotel tax is so high they won't come and stay in El Paso. your looking for money in all the wrong places.
