About a dozen people gathered to "occupy" City Hall Monday protesting against the demolition of the building for the new proposed Triple A baseball stadium.

The city will have to purchase other buildings to rehouse their departments, and two of them are estimated to cost around $22 million.

Many believe the city's tax dollars could be better spent.

"I think it's a waste of money," said demolition opponent Lawrence Tucker. "They need to fix roads and other things around this city, but yet they want to tear this down and raise taxes, so they can build a ballpark down here."

In executive session Tuesday, City Council was expected to take action on the purchase of certain downtown buildings to relocate City Hall departments.
