Protesters Clash with Police in Cairo
CAIRO, EGYPT - Police clashed with protesters for a third day in Cairo's Tahrir Square this morning.
Protesters threw stones and tear gas canisters back at police, who surrounded the area. About 3,000 demonstrators were there, facing off with hundreds of black-clad riot police.
Egyptian soldiers and police set fire to protest tents yesterday, and fired tear gas and rubber bullets in a major assault to drive out thousands. The protesters are demanding that the military rulers quickly transfer power to a civilian government.
At least 20 protesters have been killed, and hundreds more have been injured.
