Protesters arrested after invading mayor's office
Monday, June 2, 2014 - 8:42pm

It was mayhem in the mayor's office in Albuquerque, as police arrested 14 protesters who refused to leave.

The protesters staged a sit-in to demand reforms to the city's police department. The Department of Justice and the city are currently discussing reforms after the department found a pattern of excessive force within Albuquerque PD. Several residents have been shot and killed by police in recent months.

The group stormed the office after the mayor was unable to meet with them, one woman even chaining herself to a display case.

Thirteen of the protesters were arrested and charged with criminal trespassing. Another person was also charged with felony assault on an officer.

Several of the protesters today were also involved in the takeover of a city council meeting last month. Monday night's special city council meeting was cancelled because of the protest at city hall.
