Though temperatures rarely get low enough to freeze and burst water pipes in El Paso, these kinds of things do sometimes happen so it is good to know some simple ways to prepare your house for the freezing weather.

DON'T water plants that don't need it. Once plants go dormant, they won't need water again until the spring.

DO insulate exposed pipes and faucets outside and around your home, including those in unheated areas like the basement, garage, attic or crawl space.

DO open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing.

DO let cold water drip from the faucets served by exposed pipes.

DO turn off your water at the meter if pipes break inside your home to avoid further damage and avoid water waste.
