Vets Warn of Fireworks Trauma
EL PASO — The El Paso Humane Society is continuing a popular trend on July 4 by offering low-cost adoption of dogs and cats. For just 60 dollars you can take home a very adoptable pet, with all of its immunizations and spay-neuter operation included.
Meanwhile, local veterinarians warn that the sound of loud fireworks can frighten and even traumatize your pet.
Dr. Dennis Flosi says, "If nothing else you just want to make sure they're secure, that they won't get away. Maybe put them in a dark room., sit with them, reassure them."
Dr Flosi says it may train or desensitize your pet by playing back recordings of fireworks or thunderstorms, at a reasonable volume, so that your pet becomes accustomed to the noise.
