Premature Babies Survival Rates Increase with Oxygen Treatments
Premature babies treated with high amounts of oxygen at birth appear to have an increased chance of survival. The study published in the New England Journal of Medicine looked at 13-hundred babies born between twenty-four and twenty-seven weeks.
They found those given highly saturated oxygen were more likely to survive into toddler hood, when compared to those given low oxygen. Overall, more than half of the preemies had no signs of physical or mental impairment as toddlers.
