Power restored to 7,000 Las Cruces customers

UPDATE: At approximately 2:30 p.m., power was fully restored to customers in Las Cruces. EP Electric says that a bird got into electrical equipment and caused the outage. Horizon customers also had their power restored around 2:10 p.m. No word on what caused that outage.

EARLIER:

El Paso Electric crews are currently en route to Las Cruces where approximately 7,034 customers are without power at this time.

The outage was reported at 1:50 p.m. At this time, crews are unsure what caused the outage and are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

A second large power outage has also been reported in Horizon, 2,761 customers are without power. A second crew is en route to that outage.
