Some kids in El Paso can now better enjoy their playground after a brand new canopy is installed and it's all thanks to a group of dedicated volunteers.

Most of the final touches were completed Monday as the canopy was put up on the $24,000 playground at the Child Crisis Center of El Paso.

It'll be shared by students at the Child Crisis Center, the El Paso Center for Children, and the YWCA Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center.

It's a reality thanks to volunteers from this year's class of Leadership El Paso, a year long program that fosters leaders in our community.

"The importance of this canopy is we have a brand new playground, but we didn't have any shade structure and the children that use this, we need to protect them," explained Al Velarde with the Child Crisis Center.

This year's Leadership El Paso class raised the money as part of their class project. A fence will also soon be built around the playground.
