The spouses of several Borderland soldiers have a reason to celebrate. They were offered jobs Thursday.

It was all thanks to a military spouse hiring fair held at Fort Bliss. A recent study conducted by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families found military spouses were 30 percent more likely to be under employed than the spouses of non-military members.

Frequent moves were cited as the biggest challenge in finding employment. This semi-annual event at Fort Bliss is aimed at changing that.

"My advice would be to stay encouraged. I know several times they come here and they may not have a position that you think you're interested in, but get here, put your face out," said Simone Beasley, who found a job at a previous job fair.

About a fourth of those in attendance usually walk away with jobs. More than 70 employers attended today's event.
