EPPD opens recruitment for summer youth academy
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The El Paso Police Department will be hosting two summer youth academies this year, in June and July, respectively. EPPD says that the goal of these summer youth academies is to introduce young men and women in the community to the police department in a positive and informative manner.
The academies will be held Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. The first session will be held June 23-27, 2014 at the Pebble Hills Command, located at 10780 Pebble Hills. The second session will be held July 12-18, 2014 at the Mission Valley Regional Command, located at 9011 Escobar.
There is no charge to attend the academy, and the courses are open to anyone between the ages of 13-18 who have not yet graduated from high school. Presentations about patrol, traffic investigations, general investigations, crimes against persons, SWAT, Canine and hostage negotiations will be given during the summer academies.
High school graduates wishing to participate will be referred to the adult program, which is anticipated to start in late August or early September. Meals are not provided by EPPD, so each participant will be required to bring their own sack lunch. Enrollment began Wednesday, May 14, 2014 and will close once all slots are filled.
Space is limited so please submit your application early. Priority will be given to students who have not yet attended previous sessions.
