Pony Trail Murder suspect pleads guilty

A man intertwined in a plot to kill a federal informant back in 2009 has pleaded guilty in the crime.

Christopher Duran, 20, pleaded guilty Tuesday in district court.

His sentencing date is still pending.

Duran and three other men are accused of killing Jose Gonzalez-Galeana on Pony Trail in May 2009, the first instance to be considered "spill-over" violence from the drug war.

Galeana was a U.S. informant and lieutenant with the Juarez drug cartel.

Police say Duran played a role in the murder but another cartel member, Ruben Rodriguez, is accused of plotting the attack.

The alleged trigger man, Michael Jackson Apodaca, was a Fort Bliss soldier.

A fourth person believed to be involved is suspected to be in Mexico.
