Online buyers beware! That's the message El Paso police want to get out to the community.

Police are seeing an increase in the number of online scams being reported. They said the most popular type of scams are for property. The victims are told to send-off a deposit for the property in order to receive a special price. The thieves make off with the money and most of the time are never caught.

El Paso Police Detective Art Spindler said, "Don't take a website at its face value, check out the website. If it has to do with property, go to that property; talk to the people there and find out who the owner of the property is and find out if they are selling it or renting it."
