All across the country Friday, people were lining up for what seemed like a concert or big game.
But what they were actually waiting for, was a pair of sneakers.
As shopper Jay Gray reported, the excitement over the latest "must have" sneaker was causing some real concern, and even some problems.
These hot pairs were the latest design to make you “run fast and jump high.” But those hoping to slip-on a pair of Nike's newest athletic shoe were doing a lot of standing, sitting and waiting.
"We've been waiting here for days, almost a week, trying to get these sneakers,” said shopper Anthony Arocho.
The sneakers were the new $220 glow-in-the-dark Limited Edition Foamposite Galaxies.
"It's a lot of hype for the shoe," said shopper Deon Balding.
It’s hype that reached a boiling point in some places.
Police were called into this Florida mall when the crowds got a bit too rowdy. There were no serious injuries, and ultimately no arrests.
Several people were taken into custody last December when lines got out of hand at another Nike shoe release.
Some parents warn the chaos doesn't end if you're one of the lucky ones to get a pair of the coveted shoes.
Lawrence Hopkins says someone attacked his son last week and stole his new Nike's.
"Once they are able to acquire the shoe it seems that they have to watch their back," Lawrence Hopkins said.
In anticipation of the shoe’s release, police were watching the backs, fronts, and sides of stores across the country as thousands begin to line-up.
"Sneakers. Sneakers man. That's all it really is i mean some people out here tryin to get them and sell them i mean i want them for my feet, i'm trying to wear them,” customer George Hernandez said.
For Hernandez and many other, lacing-up that deal was going to be very difficult.
