EL PASO — The El Paso Police Officer's Union took about 150 kids on a Christmas shopping spree in West El Paso.
It was part of the, "Cops Helping Kids" event, which is held twice a year.
The officers carefully select the children from the El Paso and Ysleta Independent School Districts, with districts' help, and treat the kids to a $200 shopping spree.
Aryanna Hurtago was one of the children selected, and said she enjoyed the day.
"Instead of your mom yelling at you and saying 'no', the cop says 'yes,'" said Hurtago.
Ron Martin with the El Paso Police Officer's Association said the officers enjoy stepping in to help make it a merry Christmas for the kids.
"The kids love it. They go with the officer and it's a different outlook. Normally when we go to their school or home it's a negative, something happened. This is totally positive and different, and the kids smile and have a good time," said Martin.
