EL PASO -- An El Paso Police Officer arrested earlier this week for shoplifting has resigned from the police department.

On Tuesday, police said a Walmart security officer saw Anthony Weathersbee put items in his pocket. Weathersbee then paid for some items but not what was in his pocket.

Weathersbee was arrested for theft.

He was a 15 year veteran of the police department assigned to the Northeast Regional Command.

According to police, Weathersbee resigned from the department and it became effective Thursday.
