Taos, NM (CNN) — A routine traffic stop in northern New Mexico turned violent this weekend after police started shooting at a mini-van full of children. A state police officer ordered Orianna Ferrell out of her vehicle after she took off when he pulled her over the first time for speeding.
Eventually he pulls her out of the van, but the woman's 14 year-old son comes to her rescue and rushes the officer. At this point the mother and son get back in the van. An officer tries breaking the window with a baton, and Ferrell takes off again.
Another officer starts shooting at the van, which had four other young children inside.
The mother and her son were eventually arrested after a short chase. Both are now facing charges. The police officers involved are also under investigation.
