A routine traffic stop in northern New Mexico turned violent this weekend after police started shooting at a mini-van full of children. A state police officer ordered Orianna Ferrell out of her vehicle after she took off when he pulled her over the first time for speeding.

Eventually he pulls her out of the van, but the woman's 14 year-old son comes to her rescue and rushes the officer. At this point the mother and son get back in the van. An officer tries breaking the window with a baton, and Ferrell takes off again.

Another officer starts shooting at the van, which had four other young children inside.

The mother and her son were eventually arrested after a short chase. Both are now facing charges. The police officers involved are also under investigation.

If you've seen the video, the woman was terrified! You have to wonder what the officer said to her to make her so afraid that she would get in and drive away. I thought it was legal to drive to a police station if you thought the cop might be bogus - not like we haven't had any persons playing cop in NM! We have!!
