Police Memorial Day Honors Fallen El Pasoans
EL PASO — Police Memorial Day became a local and annual commemoration for fallen members of law enforcement after President Obama declared the commemoration official through a written Proclamation.
El Pasoans can gather at a special event hosted by Church Heinrich Park on May 18 beginning at 9 a.m.
Officials asked the public to please observe the flags on all government buildings which were flying at half staff Tuesday and take a moment to ponder the sacrifices that not only the officer but his or her family have made.
“Men and women from across the nation have taken an oath to serve and protect our communities and some have served that oath with their lives," El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen said. "I ask that the community take time this week to remember those Officers killed in the line of duty and their families here in El Paso and across the nation.”
