Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps identify the person or persons responsible for a vehicle fire Wednesday afternoon at a local Walmart store.

At about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, Las Cruces firefighters were dispatched to the northwest corner of the parking lot, at 571 Walton Blvd., where a passerby was attempting to douse the fire burning a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze before it caused damage to a vehicle parked nearby.

Fire investigators learned that a plastic gasoline container was located in the vicinity of the pickup. Investigators also learned that an individual was seen walking in the immediate area of the pickup just prior to the blaze.

The owner of the pickup, which has Kentucky license plates, has not been located.
