SANTA TERESA, NM - New Mexico State Police are investigating an early morning rollover crash involving a semi-truck.

It happened on Airport Road in Santa Teresa early Wednesday morning.  According to police, the driver was delivering a load of foam to Foamex Innovations.  The driver put the tractor trailer in reverse and accidentally backed into a drainage ditch, causing the truck to flip onto its side.  The driver said there were no lights on the dark street.

Police said the foam did not leak so the rollover did not create any hazardous conditions.  Airport Road was not shut down.

Several law enforcement agencies were on the scene including Sunland Park Police, Santa Teresa Fire, Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department and the New Mexico Motor Transportation division.

OK so this driver knew that it was dark but he still took it upon himself to back up. Did he survey the area before backing up or was he so sure of himself that he totally disregarded common sense, his own safety and the safety of others. In my opinion this was no accident, it was driver incompetence.
