Police investigate alleged thief in elderly care center

Investigators arrested and charged a man for allegedly stealing a ring from inside a home where he was employed as a caretaker.

The man, identified as 41-year-old Jose Martin, was employed by Bienvivir as a caretaker who provided services to elderly clients in their homes. Bienvivir has been contacted by officers and is cooperating with police.

The investigation began when a family member of the elderly patient notified police that a ring was missing from inside the home. Subsequent investigation led officers to a pawn shop where the ring had been pawned sold by Martin, police said. Investigators obtained a warrant for Theft over $1500 and under $20,000 based on the value of the ring. Martin was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on May 13th with a bond set at $5,000.00

 Officers do suspect that Martin may have stolen from other clients homes based on evidence they uncovered during their investigation.
