Police execute search warrant related to open gang investigation
El Paso — El Paso Police executed a search warrant with the assistance of SWAT Friday morning. Police say the search warrant is all a part of an active gang investigation that stems from a home burglary that took place in February 2013.
Authorities were at the 8800-block of Eclipse from 5:30 AM until about 7 AM and closed off the street from Comstock to Skyline.
Police say SWAT, Border Patrol, FBI, and State Troopers were all part of the investigation. While our crew was at the scene, plumes of tear gas filled the air.
Investigators say it's all part of protocol. "Many times the El Paso Swat team will execute search warrants for other units. this is to ensure the safety of the individuals inside the residence where the search warrant is being executed. It also increases the safety for the surrounding neighborhood and of course the safety to the officers," Darrel Petry, spokesperson for the El Paso Police Department said.
Police were not able to tell us if they arrested anyone. They say this is an open investigation.
