Does a handgun make a better Valentine's Day gift than a handbag? A Texas police department seems to think so, Keith Garvin tells us why they believe the gift of safety is always in style.

One thing about many women in Texas know guns, they know how to shoot them and they know how to handle them.

Jessica Markley, Gun Owner, "What I carry is a critical defense, so they're hollow point."

We found friends Jessica Markley and Shannon Teal at the tactical firearms gun range in Katy out for a girl's night.

Jessica Markley, "It's awesome,it's great. I used to be very nervous and my heart used to pound, but now it's just so comfortable."

Shannon Teal, "You relax and some people feel at home on the range."

But is a gun the quickest way to a woman's heart,, especially for Valentine's Day?

That's the suggestion Rosenberg's Police Department is making on its Facebook page.

Encouraging men to give their lady the gift of safety in the form of a firearm.

Colin Van Dyke, Manager, Tactical Firearms, "In Texas, guns make great gifts."

Sales manager Colin Van Dyke of tactical firearms said females already make up to 45 percent of his store's clientele.

They even have pink and purple pistols marketed to women.

So a firearm as a present would be on target, as long as she knows what she's doing.

Colin Van Dyke, "That's a great idea as long as safety is first, because there's nothing more dangerous than a complete novice with a firearm."

But would a firearm be as romantic as a bouquet of roses or a box of chocolates?

Well, that's when you have to know your lady, Shannon Teal, "I think if you get the right type of woman it'd be romantic for her."

Jessica Markley, "I would jump at that person and kiss them and thank him so much, because guns are expensive, and I would have so many if they were cheaper. I'd be like, 'Let's get married 'cause you know me so well!'"
