Plans for a new Walmart hit a roadblock
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The city's planning commission has voted against a proposal to rezone part of Central El Paso to allow a new Walmart grocery store to be built. The proposed store would be built at the intersection of Montana and Chelsea where Chicos Tacos now sits.
It was a close vote. According to the advertising agency representing Walmart, the planning commission voted five to four against the rezoning proposal.
Both Chicos and an animal clinic would have to close down if that area were rezoned. The city development department has opposed the project saying the Walmart would be too close to homes in the area. City council will have the final say.
