Woman who murdered 3-Year old daughter already sentenced to life
El Paso — Already headed to prison for life after murdering her three year old daughter, Yara Perez sat again in judge Angie Barrill's court on the separate conviction of injuring her child. Perez was convicted of killing her daughter Jacqueline Gonzalez, in 2007. Police later found the child's body in the trunk of her car.. Perez's boyfriend at that time, Francisco Casteneda is already serving life in prison for the crime.
On the stand today the little girl's grandmother Elizabeth Gonzalez, said she took care of the baby for most of her short life, but then Perez cut her off from seeing Jacqueline two weeks before the murder.
A neighbor testified that Perez kicked Jaqueline and then said...'as long as I don't leave any marks when I hit her.'
Next came Perez's husband Arturo Ornelas. He wept as the court showed pictures of his wedding to Perez last December. He told the court that as they dated in 2010:
"She told me everything about what happened with her little girl...It was just crazy...I was in extreme shock".
He also told the court he is one hundred percent committed to Perez even if she does spend her life in prison. At one point as lawyers approached the bench, he whispered something to Perez who sat twelve feet away, and she nodded.
The jury will hear closing arguments at 8:30 Tuesday morning, and then decide whether to add an additional penalty to the life sentence Perez already faces for the murder of Jacqueline Gonzalez.
