UPDATE:

Police confirmed that a 31-year-old man died after being hit by a car in Northeast El Paso.

Officers responded to the 5200 block of Antonio Dr. at 9:03 p.m. Wednesday.  Javier Sambrano, Spokesman for the El Paso Police Department, said the victim was walking in the street wihen he was struck by the car.

Investigators believe the victim may have been drinking. 

The 21-year-old driver stayed on the scene and waited for police to arrive.

The victim was taken to University Medical Center where he later died. 

Police detained the driver for questioning, but he was later released.  No charges have been filed at this time.

A person is in a local hospital after being hit by a car in a Northeast El Paso neighborhood Wednesday night.

NewsChannel 9 is still gather details, but crews on the scene on Antonio Ave. and Agnes St. saw a red sedan with a cracked windshield.

Dispatch reports show the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

El Paso police officers blocked off Antonio Ave., which also blocked residents of the nearby Maximus Apartments from going in or out.
