A $1,000 check will be presented to Parkland High school for a literacy grant awarded by the Association of Texas Professional Educators Foundation (ATPE). The grant is intended for school libraries to purchase literacy materials and modernize resources.

Susan York, the librarian at Parkland High, applied for the grant. The school is one of five recipients of the grant this year and the only high school to be awarded the grant this year.

The grant is named in honor of longtime Texas educator Beth Ann Rogers. Throughout her 36-year career in public education, she taught kindergarten, special education and physical education and also served as a principal and librarian.
