Parents protested together in front of Lamar Elementary school on Friday in the hopes that school administrators will hear their pleas.

"Not to overlook the elementary because there is a lot of kids that have special needs and need the help," Michelle Soto, a parent who claims her son's needs were overlooked by Lamar educators.

Veronica Estrada claims her son was abused by a school monitor.

"The actual grabbing of him, the yelling, that she yelled at him to get up. The fear, the fear that he continuously has everyday," Veronica Estrada says.

She's not the only parent to make these claims. In a letter, Christine Rodriguez says her son was also mishandled by the same employee.

In a letter she says, "my son complained to me that the monitor pulled him." she goes on to write "The concern I had wasn't if it hurt him, it's that no staff should lay hands on any student."

We reached out to EPISD and they tell us 'administrators and the El Paso Police Department looked into these claims' which were made in October,' and discovered that they were unfounded.'

Estrada says the district's investigation was not thorough.

"Ever since then they have not reopened it, they have not made any other effort other than what they say what goes and they do not believe the child," she tells us.

She also says it's getting worse for her son.

"He's already going through counseling. He's already been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder," Estrada exclaims, tearfully.

Estrada now stands with fellow parents asking for a better educational experience for not only her son, but all children in the district.

"If they're not willing to change, things are not going to get any better for the parents in this school district or the teachers, or anybody here," she says.

I am a Lamar parent and I wish I was as strong as these brave souls. I have not only had problems with Ms. Martina who threatens my child but the negligence of the principle. The principle is very cold hearted and evil to the point that i fear to even come fourth in anyway. I have placed many complaints but not one has been addressed. I ask the broad members why do they even have people like this working for children?

Thank you Channel 9 for showing interest in the story about our plight with Lamar Elementary. I am a parent at the school and this year has been very rough on our family but more so on our son. We are not out there to bring down the school nor to ask for pity but to bring the issues of our concerns out to the public and especially to the other parents at the school and make sure there is nothing that will affect their future education.

Maybe we are the same parents L Madrid, have you stop and think that there is more parents but they are scare of the retaliation agains our kids and agaist parents? You are one of the lucky parents that have no problems in that school. Thanks God that your son is not Disable or have any disability because then you will see what our kids go through. How hard is to provide proper education to SPECIAL EDUCATION KIDS. Like I said Thanks to Lamar ES my son is in HOMEBOUND. I can prove it.

Its ashamed that the school claims this incident to be "unsubstantiated." They are just hiding alot of things that go on in this school. And many of our kids that attend this school no longer feel safe in this school due to this "monitor." Many parents have "YEARS" complaining about the same monitor and NOTHING has been done. We've had enough and many parents are taking extra steps to make some kind of change happen. The monitors, volunteers need the correct training to deal with children.

why was ms. martina's name removed from the article? my son goes to this school, my niece goes to this school too and my sister went there 3 yrs ago, ms. martina made my sister cry in one occasion that she was going to wait for her cousins at the school playground, she yelled at her that she was not going to be allowed to pick up her younger cousins afterschool anymore. she's just intimidating! there is no need to yell at the students!!

We have been fighting this school for along time.My son is homebound now and his Doc, will not let him go back

It's always the same parents that protest. My son attends Lamar ES and we have never had a problem with any of the staff. It's a shame that all they do is bring is negative attention to the school.

L. Madrid its a shame that most parents at Lamar Elementary on not evolved with the school or even with their children. All the parents just like yourself are not involved with any activities at the school and i bet you are a parents who drops off your child like cattle at the front gate. These parents that you so call are bringing negative attention to the school are the same parents who were greatly involved at Lamar Elementary such as the PTA and all fundraisers unlike you.

It's wonderful that you have not had any problems at Lamar. The point of the protest was not to bring negativity to the school but rather to bring attention and help for those of us who have had issues. I hope that you will never have any issues with a disciplinary action that might be taken on your son or simple just refuse to take you son to Saturday school because the day that you disagree with any issue you will then learn what our Administrations concern are. And it’s not our children!

I am very glad that you have had a pleasant experience at Lamar Elementary and I pray it stays that way, but as for us parents that have had to live a life of anger and distrust towards the school and the
district it has been a long hard and dissatisfied year. Should you have any problems in the future, and again I pray not, you are very welcome to join our group of concerned parents. Together we can all make the changes needed for our children and their education and safety.

EPISD is a district that is not only in disaray but it is a district that regularly trys to dump special needs students on other districts and if the parents keep their child in an EPISD school then that child suffers just like parents at lamar are protesting about. EPISD is a disgracefull district. It is a district that is not about and for the kids, it is about the board, administrators and how much they can get away with.
