Parents attend symposium for information about helping their children with special needs
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — A local organization wants parents to know they're not alone when it comes to raising a child with special needs.
For the 25th year in a row, The Children's Disabilities Information Coalition in El Paso invited parents to a symposium on Saturday, where there were aisles and aisles of resources at their disposal.
Tables were set up with information about the special education system, unique types of therapy and activities for kids, and eligibility requirements for certain programs, among other topics.
"I've been coming to this symposium for the last 9 years and every year, I learn something new," said Gilda Lopez.
"You can meet other parents that have similar situations like mine, like having trouble at school, like bullying," said Cynthia Cruz.
Many of the parents said caring for a child with special needs can be an overwhelming journey, but comes with a love they wouldn't trade for the world.
The Children's Disabilities Information Coalition in El Paso hosts these symposiums every year.
