Paralyzed Man Walks Again
MIAMI, FL — A stroke left a 58-year-old unable to walk or talk until a doctor performed a brain-saving procedure thanks to a new device that was just FDA approved last month.
Jorge Lazo says his left leg and arm were paralyzed and he couldn't talk before Dr. Dileep Yavagal performed a brain-saving procedure.
"Using catheters from the groin artery and then navigating them up all the way into the brain," Dr. Dileep Yavagal, Neurosurgeon.
Dr. Yavagal used a new device to grab the clot so he could remove it without surgery.
The patient was able to lift his left leg as soon as the procedure was over.
Lazo said he feels super well. He still doesn't have control of his left arm but he was able to lift it and is expected to make a full recovery.
