EL PASO — The finalized purchase of Triple-A baseball team by the MountainStar Sports Group was officially announced at a press conference Thursday afternoon. The group purchased the team for about $20 million.
The Padres will be the second Triple-A team in Texas. The President of the Pacific Coast League Branch Rickey announced he was excited to welcome Triple-A baseball to El Paso, saying it would add recognition to El Paso like it has done for other cities.
A new name for the team will be decided through a contest with the involvement of the community.
A website for Triple-A baseball in El Paso announced Opening Day for the downtown ballpark was expected in 2014. Tickets for games started at $5.
