Families Call Authorities After Smelling Ammonia In Area

Fifty families were evacuated from a Socorro neighborhood after ammonia leaked from a tank on a nearby farm.
Around 11 o'clock last night, Socorro Police and Fire Department were called out to the 10000 block of Monte Mayor near Monte Rubio. Residents had been complaining of a strong odor in the area.
Socorro Mayor Trini Lopez called the El Paso Fire Department to assist in the cleanup. The families were warned to leave the area during that time.
No injuries were reported as a result of the spill.
