Opening of tax season delayed
El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — If you're itching to get your tax forms filed, you're going to have to wait a little longer than usual. Because of the 16 day federal government shutdown, the internal revenue service is running behind in getting all the changes in tax codes worked into forms.
That means the IRS won't begin processing returns until January 31st, 10 days later than normal. Despite the delay in opening the season, this year's tax deadlines will still remain the same: April 15th for federal taxes and May 15th for state taxes.
