The incredible level of violence in Juarez has been simply staggering this year.
Tuesday, a documentary movie about narco-terrorism along the U.S./Mexico border will premiere at the Plaza Theater. The movie, titled "Drug Wars" explains why we are seeing the violence along the border.
"These guys have very specific purposes for everything they do. The way they kill a person, where they leave them, how they leave them, everything has a purpose." says Rusty Fleming, the movie's creator.
Fleming should know. He spent 3 years interviewing and living around cartel leaders and members in Nuevo Laredo.
Fleming says most people think this drug war, with nearly 1,500 murders, the thousands of kidnappings in Juarez alone this year is only about drugs. Fleming says it is also about turf.
"Within 100 miles of any direction of El Paso, Texas, for them to operate in those regions, they have to have control. These are men that are in a risky business anyways they are going to minimize those risks. How? By corrupting officials, corrupting what ever parts of the government they have to in order to have a safe haven from which to operate."
You can see "Drug Wars" the movie at the Plaza Theater, Tuesday night at 7:00 PM. The cost is $7.00 per person. You can also order a copy of "Drug Wars" by going to www.drugwarsthemovie.com
