Some folks in Horizon are getting their chance at the American dream, owning their own home, but they'll have to work... to get it.

Our cameras caught up with six families who are helping each other build homes.

This is all part of a special program by the Lower Valley Housing Corporation that helps low-income families get into a house of their own .

Here's the catch: Each family has to build at least 65% of their home with thier own two hands and no one can't move in until every home in their group is completed.

Most of these folks have no training in construction but thanks to some licensed contractors they are learning how to build from the ground up.

"We've learned how to break up the walls and put up shingles, we learn a lot of stuff doing construction," Future Homeowner, Abraham Amador said.
