Man killed in fiery Upper Valley crash

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso Police say that the driver of a 2007 BMW died after crashing into a tree in the Upper Valley early Tuesday morning.

Police say they were called to the 5500 block of Montoya at Mamie just after 1 a.m. when the driver of the BMW was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, left the road on the dirt shoulder and slammed into a large tree.

The car burst into flames and the driver was killed at the scene. The passenger of the BMW also suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to UMC for treatment.

STI investigators say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. Police have yet to identify either of the men involved in the crash.

This is the 33rd traffic fatality of 2017 compared to 41 at this time in 2016.
